3A - Your Entrepreneurship Story

The high school I attended invited a guest speaker once a week. During my sophomore year, a man who was one of Steve Jobs first investors, gave a speech. I can not recall the man's name because he was not Steve Jobs. However, I do remember his story. He was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. After graduating from high school, he took a year off to travel. After the break, he attended the University of Tampa and pursued a major in business. He did not want the typical 9-to-5 job. He wanted to take risk and be part of something big. While he was an entrepreneur and took risks, his risks were well calculated. Steve Jobs showed him a business idea and he saw how the potential in his new technology that would have a major impact on the world. Many people doubted Steve Jobs and did not want to be part of his team. In the beginning of Apple, there were a lot of questions on if it could compete in the market because of established competitors such a Microsoft. As an entrepreneur, he saw the worth in the risk because if Apple worked, he could live his dream and if it did not, he could try again somewhere else.

I enrolled in ENT3003 because I have always had an interested in starting my own business. I also registered for this class because it is different than the other classes in the business college. I am majoring in food and resource economics and minoring in business administration. I have taken several classes in the businesses college such as financial accounting. While these classes might be beneficial for a future career, they were kind of boring and stressful. ENT3003 is not as stressful as business fiance and looks a lot less boring than than a typical business class.

  1. Hi,
I thought this was a great story that showed the value of a risk. There were many great things pointed out in this story such as how risk is always filled with doubt and how potential can lead to something great if you just take a risk. Most importantly, he took well calculated risks which shows, that success doesn't come from luck it comes from the combination of planning, risk, and a little bit of luck. Overall, I thought this post was very interesting to read.

  2. Hey Tyler,
Your story was great. This story was very inspirational because one thing a lot of people lack is confidence. The speaker that attended your high school apparently had an impact on you because you're taking this course. Risk taking can be really scary but the fact that he spoke about it in front of a group of high school students showed that he believed in you guys and wanted you guys to know that life is all about sweat and tears.
